For Reviewers

Reviewers selection is a critical part of the publication process, and our choice is based on many factors such as expertise, specific recommendations and our own previous experience of a reviewer's characteristics. We check with potential reviewers before sending them manuscripts to review. Reviewers should declare their conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from the peer-review process if a conflict exists.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

The review should comprise a critical but impartial scientific and literary appraisal in the fields of the reviewer's knowledge and skills. A reviewer should not review a manuscript outside his or her expertise or where a personal, scientific or financial interest could be considered likely to bias judgment. In case of doubts about these matters please contact the Editorial Office. A reviewer may not use or disclose any unpublished content of a manuscript under review without the express written permission of the Authors obtained through the Editorial Office. Under special circumstances, a reviewer may wish to consult a collaborator or colleague on some special point. This should be cleared beforehand with the Editorial Office, and the name of the collaborator or consultant should be mentioned in the comments to the Editor of the review.

Timely Review Reports

We ask reviewers to assist by providing review reports in a timely manner. Reviewers should contact the editorial office promptly if they require an extension to the review deadline.

Confidentiality and Anonymity

Reviewers should keep in mind that these messages contain confidential information, which should be treated as such. Reviewers must not cite a manuscript or refer to the work it describes before it has been published and do not use the information that it contains for the advancement of your own research or in discussions with colleagues. Reviewers remain anonymous in the peer review process for JFSF and in the publication of the article.
